John Qualtrough, baritone

John has won many prizes as a solo singer in music festivals around the country. He has been Champion of the Bristol Eisteddfod and Southport Music Festival. In 2003 and 2004 he was winner of the Rosebowl at the Cheltenham Music Festival.

He has sung as soloist in St Martin-in-the-Fields, on HMS Victory, an individual recital in Tewkesbury Abbey, leading roles in opera, light opera and oratorio, and in a variety of ensembles.

In the summer he sang as soloist in a Proms concert alongside Jane Gilchrist, winner of Channel 4's 'Operatunity' competition, and was accompanied there by the English Symphony Orchestra under Stephen Roberts.

He covers a wide repertoire from opera and oratorio , through English and French art songs and lieder, to popular songs, Scottish songs, ballads and comic songs.

One of his specialities is songs of the sea. His love for them and for all music started with his upbringing in a family and community of music-loving folk in the Isle of Man.

He sings in concerts and musical productions, to audiences both large and small, as well as at weddings, funerals, dinners and dances.

John has helped to raise some £60,000 so far by singing in support of charitable events.
